Metta Pracharak (Wat Rai Khing) Hospital was established in 1989 by Phra Ubalee Kunu Pramajarn, the abbot of Wat Rai Khing Temple. The hospital was funded through donations from the temple and local residents, with a total cost of 95,778,494 baht. 

On April 27, 1989, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the opening ceremony of the hospital, which marked the launch of its non-communicable disease prevention center. 

In 1990, the Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health, designated Metta Pracharak (Wat Rai Khing) Hospital as a National Eye Center. The hospital operates in two divisions: the Metta Pracharak Eye Center and a General Hospital. 

Metta Pracharak Eye Center has served as a training institution in ophthalmology. It began offering an ophthalmology residency and an oculoplastic fellowship program in 2007. This was followed by the launch of the retinal and vitreous diseases fellowship program in 2010 and the glaucoma fellowship program in 2011.
